Perfect protection and connection of metal
Different types of tape are used in metalworking for various applications. Below we will list some common types of tape used in metalworking.
Sandblasting tape
Sandblasting tape (RK 450) is specially designed to be used when sandblasting metal surfaces. It is resistant to the abrasive effect of the blasting agent and protects parts of the metal that should not be blasted. This helps create sharp lines and patterns on the metal surface.
Pre-powder coat tape
Pre-powder coat tape, also known as powder coat masking tape, is used to mask off specific areas on a metal part before it is coated. This allows those taped areas to be protected from the powder coating, keeping their original finish. This tape can withstand high temperatures used in curing. An example of this is the RK 615.
Acrylic foam tape
Acrylic foam tape (VHB, TESA ACX+, Iguna) is often used in metalworking for structural connections. This type of tape has an acrylic foam carrier and is provided with an adhesive layer on both sides. It is used to secure parts together, dampen vibrations, create seals, and perform other fastening and insulating applications. It can be used in pre-powder coat compounds. Did you know that the 3M GPH series, for example, can already be applied before the powder coating process? This tape can withstand temperatures of 230°C for a short period of time (minutes, hours) and can therefore withstand the high temperatures of a powder coating process.
Using the right tape in metalworking is essential to achieve the desired results, such as protecting surfaces.
Before you start using the tape in your production process, we always advise you to test the connection thoroughly first!
